"Behold
the mysterious Celt,
With a property that amuses.
One way it will spin,
The other way it refuses."
This mysterious property
was originally discovered in prehistoric chopping implements. These objects
were called Celts, which is Latin for chisel. True to the rhyme, this
object will spin in one direction, but when spun in the "wrong"
direction, it will quickly stop, rattle up and down and then begin to
spin in the opposite direction. This wobble or rattle motion gives it
two of its more popular names, "Wobblestone" or "rattleback."
Why does the Wobblestone do what it does?
